Membership

Join the Sociological Science Accelerator

Membership in the Sociological Science Accelerator (SSA) is open to anyone who supports our mission and wishes to contribute to large-scale, collaborative sociological research. Maintaining accurate and up-to-date membership information allows us to estimate capacity, communicate effectively, and coordinate projects across the network.

Becoming a Member

To join the SSA, you must:

  • Read and agree to abide by the Code of Conduct and Scientific Integrity Policies.
  • Agree to support the mission and core principles of the SSA when working on SSA-supported projects.
  • Provide a persistent email address (in addition to any academic email) so that you can continue to receive SSA communications even if your institutional account is deactivated. Accounts with bouncing email addresses are deleted to maintain an accurate membership list.
  • You will also be subscribed to the SSA newsletter using your primary email address.
  • Membership is free and takes effect immediately upon registration.

Maintaining Membership

To remain an active member of the SSA, all members must:

  • Continue to abide by the Code of Conduct and Scientific Integrity Policies.
  • Report misconduct or policy violations (an anonymous online reporting option is available).
  • Make at least one contribution per year to the SSA. New members have one year from joining to make their first contribution.

Qualifying Contributions

This list is illustrative, not exhaustive, and we err on the side of inclusion:

  • Collecting data for an SSA study.
  • Making non-data-collection contributions to an SSA study.
  • Serving as a peer reviewer for an SSA study.
  • Rating a study submission in a full-network survey.
  • Translating study materials.
  • Providing feedback on a study prior to submission.
  • Voting in elections, study selection, or other SSA consultations.
  • Completing or updating your online profile (including keeping your email current).

Rights of Members

All SSA members may:

  • Indicate their willingness to contribute to SSA projects and earn authorship when warranted.
  • Provide feedback at key stages of every SSA project, including study selection, protocol and analysis plans, and manuscript submissions.
  • Join projects and earn authorship based on their contributions (participation in specific studies cannot always be guaranteed).
  • Provide feedback on SSA procedures and workflows through online surveys.

Voluntary Membership

Membership is voluntary. Anyone may request removal from the SSA at any time by emailing sociologyexperimental@gmail.com.

Compulsory Membership for Contributors

All individuals who contribute to SSA studies must be SSA members during their period of contribution. This ensures that everyone involved in SSA research has read and agreed to follow the Code of Conduct and Scientific Integrity Policies.
